More new work. Satin silk scarves by Kate Martin

Kate writes:

"An interest in mark making on fabric has been a catalyst for much of my work, using stitching, painting, dyeing, drawing and printing techniques. I am currently focusing on experimenting and developing the use of natural plant material to dye and print natural fabrics and then manipulate those fabrics into art pieces. The result is a collection of wearable and two-dimensional art pieces.
Windfalls from nature and discards from the kitchen become a source of imagery and inspiration. Everything from Eucalyptus leaves, rose petals, walnuts, onion skins, and flowers are gathered, tied into tight bundles, enveloped in wool or silk, and bound with string. The textiles are steamed and/or immersed and when it is time to open the bundles...wonderful evocative images, patterns and colours are revealed. The resulting textiles possess earthy nuances, which speak of the depth, diversity and the intrigue of nature."
